Winter in was approaching as we left Menorca a week ago after an idyllic two week break.
On a couple of days rain and an unseasonal coolness took us by surprise
and kept us out of the swimming pool.
We have taken a holiday in late October and had perfect weather but the autumn
is the wetest time of year. As we sat in departures at Mahon Airport it was
quiet and quite frankly peaceful.
In November the airport will be near deserted
as the main holiday season ends and many hotels and apartments are closed until
next May.
When I got home I serched the internet for winter breaks and found little on offer.
I remembered that Monarch fly each Friday throughout the year from Luton Airport
and so I searched for accommodation using the Official website of the
Menorca Hotel Association and found a facinating Villa on offer this winter, with its own indoor pool!

So why would anyone want to visit Menorca out of season? Many facilities are closed but gone are the crowd.
The temerature and weather conditions are akin to springtime in the home counties and a daytime temperature
allows a leisurely visit to many of the islands unique features such as the pre-historic settlements
and the Eco Museum near
Cape Cavalleria.
Winter allows you to see Menorca in a different light. The gentle sunlights emphasises the wonderful colours
of the countryside. It also allows you to visit Algendar Gorge with its diversity of fora and fauna.
