Cala Blanca (Blue flag) Cuitadella

Cala Blanca is one of the Ciutadella Area Beaches and is 5 Kms from the city of Ciutadella, between Cala Santandria and s'Aigo Dolça and next to the village of Cala Blanca.

Its name come from the colour of the sands which are virtual surrounded by a rocky area on top of which are villas and some tourist shops and cafes amidst pine woods.

To the rear of the beach are dunes and further tourist facilities. The beach is however rather exposed to westerly winds but enjoys a gently sloping beach and calm water conditions.

Access by car is easy as the beach is well signposted. There is a free parking close to the beach and Cala Blanca can also be reached by public transport. The easy of access does make the beach crowded at times with both visitors and locals.

Cala en Blanes (Blue Flag) Cuitadella

Length of the beach: 30 meters; Average width: 42 meters; Degree of occupancy: high Type of beach: urban; Swimming conditions: calm water

Cala en Blanes is 4 Kms from Ciutadella between Punta de Cala en Blanes and na Marí. Close by is the village of Torre del Ram and nearby the tourist attractions at Los delfines, Cala Piques, Cala en Front and Cala en Brut.

This beach is oriented toward the south east and is very sheltered from southerly winds. However it is quite small and does become very crowded as it is popular for its Picnic area and is well served with tourist facilities and its proximity to Ciutadella gives visitors easy access to lots of leisure facilities. The beach itself is sandy and the surrounding area is rocky with low cliffs covered in vegitation.

Access by car is straightforward and Cala en Blanes is well signposted and a private car park provides free parking. You can also reach this Ciutadella Area Beaches by public transport.

Cala en Bosch also known as Cala'n Bosch (Blue flag) Ciutadella

Cala'n Bosch

Cala'n Bosch or Cala en Bosch as it is also known is 12 Kms from Ciutadella. Close by is Marina de Cala en Bosch and Punta de sa Guarda as well the villages of Cap d'Artrutx and Son Xoriguer.

This beach is the first that the visitor will find in the south coast of Menorca, coming from west and next to Cap d'Artrutx. If the weather is good you can see the coast of Majorca from this beach of fine grained white sand.

Cala'n Bosch is exposed to the winds from the south but normally enjoys a gentle breeze. This resort is part of the biggest coastal stretches of developed coves in the Ciutadella Area Beaches.

Access by car is straightforward and Cala'n Bosch is well signposted and a private car park provides free parking. You can also reach this beach by public transport.

Cala Galdana (Blue flag) also known as Cala Santa Galdana, Cala Santagaldana Ferreries

Cala Santa Galdana is the queen of Menorcan Platjas.

A wonderfully sheltered keyhole bay with white sands, pine trees and high cliffs guarding its entrance.

This Menorcan Beach has excellent conditions for swimming and morning shade at the eastern side.

Cala Santa Galdana also boasts a fun water park and a children’s playground and is situated at the mouth of Menorca’s only river and the "The Algendar" ravine which stretches inland for 10kms.

Cala Santa Galdana is located in the centre of Menorca’s southern coast.

Caleta d'en Gorries also known as Sa Caleta (Blue flag) Cuitadella

Caleta d'en Gorries or sa Caleta is two kilometres from Ciutadella, between Torre des Castellar and Cala Santandria, next to the village of Cala Santandria.

The name caleta refers to its very small size. This inlet is surrounded by residential houses in the surroundings. It is exposed to the winds from the southwest-west providing a gentle breeze. The water is calm, clean and transparent, and the slope is gentle. It is quite crowded by local visitors and tourists.

Access by car is easy just follow the signs. Private cars can be left on a free parking area close by. You can also reach this beach by public transport.

For health and safety reasons, the local authority rules ban pets on beaches.

Platja de Santandria also known as Cala Santandria (Blue flag) Cuitadella

Platja de Santandria is four kilometres from Ciutadella, between Caleta d'en Gorries and Cala Blanca. This area is known for its prehistoric caves.

Legend tells that the name is given by a Christian prisoner wound by Moor captain called this coastal corner Sancte Andrea. This inlet near Cape d'Artrutx is not very big and does become very crowded by local visitors and tourists, the beach is sandy and exposed to the winds from the west northwest which produces a gentle breeze. The waters are calm and clear and the slope is gentle.

Access by car is straightforward. Private cars can be left on a free parking area in the surroundings. You can also reach this beach using public transport.

Platja de Son Xoriguer Ciutadella

Platja de Son Xoriguer is 12 kilometres from Ciutadella, between Punta de sa Guarda and Titina. These two urban areas contribute to the fact that Ciutadella is the menorcan municipality with the most important tourist activity as it has more that half of the hotel places on the island.

This inlet is the shape of a shell and although it is not very big, the beach is partially sandy on the left hand side, The water is calm and the slope is gentle but there are some reefs next to the beach. It does become very crowded by local visitors and tourists, and lots of families. Close to this cove there is Cap d'Artrutx, the south western most area of Menorca, and the closest point to Majorca.

Access by car is easy just follow the signs. Private cars can be left on a free parking area in the beach area. You can also reach this beach by public transport.

Son Bou also known as Platges de Son Bou

My first holiday in Menorca was at Son Bou, perhaps that is why this beach is one of my favourite beaches. However I like to think that my feelings are more analytical. The beach at Son Bou is golden sand which goes on for over a mile. All the way to San Thomas in fact.

This is one of the southern beaches which is well served with good facilities at the eastern end although the further west you go the less developed it becomes. In this area nudists congregate on this unofficial beach.

In the east the beach is backed by Son Bou itself and a vast car park. This combination makes the eastern end of the beach very crowded especially at the weekend when tourists are joined by locals all seeking a place to settle on the foreshore.
