The Whys and Wherefores plus an Unusual Beach

This is our first newsletter and you may well ask why?

We started Menorca Minorca in January 2009 and already have a large following with visitors firing questions at us, which we welcome.

Whilst in inspiration mode for this first Newsletter I came across an article in the on line Menorca.info The article was from an expat Englishman who explained that retirement had given him the time to chat with holidaymakers and the local Menorcans. He concludes by saying :-

"I feel that listening to other people and learning from them broadens one’s viewpoint and I look forward to new conversations with complete strangers who will continue to teach me more about life and give me a wider perspective on what is going on around us."

Sadly pre-retirement we do not have the luxury of spare time and thus must make every second count! However I agree with the sentiment that a wider perspective is needed by all of us in order to get the most out of life. Holidays are, in my opinion, are an essential part of busy modern life.

I therefore feel that sharing our experiences and knowledge benefits us all. In this vein I give you our "first edition"and ask you to share with us your feelings, experiences and thoughts. Just go to About Us and use the form at the bottom of the page.

If you are on holiday this summer and are looking for something different read on.

La Mola by Night a visit with a difference

Visitors are invited to explore the magic of La Mola at night in guided torchlit tours of the fortress, with a musical audition and glass of cava in the Hornworks during the interval.

The visits will take place on 10th and 24th July and 7th and 21st August, all starting at 2130 hrs.

Also on offer are Stargazing Evenings, the fortress offering an uninterrupted view of the heavens. An introductory explanation will be given in Spanish. These evenings will be held on 16th and 30th July and 13th and 27th August, all at 2100 hrs.

Places are limited so bookings should be made in advance at the Information Office in Moll de Ponent, Maó, the fortress or online at info@fortalesalamola.com.

One of the joys or an annual holiday is that special time, in the evening when old friends and new found friends get together for an evening meal.

Menorca offer a great wealth of restaurants from simple resort cafes to more luxurious restaurants. I feel that a holiday is not complete unless you seek out a new eating place at least once during your stay.

This month we are featuring four restaurants. One is in the west, the second in the north. Thirdly we travel to the east and finally to the south.

Arenal den Moro

Each month we will feature a beach with a difference and this month we feature Our web page beach of S'Arenal d'en Moro, a scenic spot on the Illa d'en Colom (Pigeon Island).

A visit to this beach provides an interesting day out. Boats from Es Grau leave about every half hour from the jetty at the far end of the main street. There is no apparent timetable but sailing start about 10.00 in the summer and the fare for the round trip is about €5. The beaches on the island are popular with nudists. The picture below is by Carles Garcia-Roca

Well if you are reading this you must have found something interesting. We would love to hear from you, good or bad.

See you next month
