Of all the features over the years which have continued to arouse interest the large flocks of Starlings which roost in the Reed Beds close to Torre Soli, Son Bou.

Again this week I have been contacted about my feature on these intriguing birds by visitors to Mallorca who have noted Starlings apparently arriving from the direction of Menorca early in the day and again flocking just before dusk to head back in large numbers towards Menorca. I have read that Starlings often travel up to 20 miles in a day in search of food and would love to learn more about these Menorcan flocks of Starlings Anyone who can shed light on this phenomena can visit our Starlings page.

Ginet is the local name for a very special Menorcan brew! A Plant which grows widely in Menorca and an occupying force appear to have little in common!

However the presence of many junipers growing wild on the island plus the British Fleet at anchor in Mahon Harbour led to the production of a spirit far removed from the Spanish and Mediterranean traditions, but with more than a passing resemlence to the English spirit.

Valentine Day has been and gone and we have all had our fill of pancakes. Even the weather in the UK is showing a hint of Spring this week. How do you fancy taking a stroll along a deserted beach or walking in the countryside passing fields of wild flowers in virtually every colour of the rainbow. The air is alive with the scents of jasmine and orange blossom.
Spring in Menorca comes into a lush and fresh landscape before the heat of summer arrives. In April temperature rise into the low 20ºC range. The crowds do not arrive until May but the airlines are already gearing up with the once a week being supplemented by flights from Manchester Birmingham, Gatwick and Luton. Accommodation is available restaurants are begining to open up sublementing those that remain open all year.
