Menorca is frequently referred to as the most family oriented of the Balearic Islands.

This is no doubt a fact especially as we approach the school summer holidays. However if you wait until the schools are back in early September you will see a totally different Menorca.

Gone are the crowds, but Summer is still in full swing as far as the weather is concerned. Fiestas are still an almost weekly feature. Menorcan fiestas are carnivals of dancing, parades and firework displays.

Menorcan horses add a special element to these fiestas as they are trained to rear up on their hind legs. Such displays of horsemanship are unique to Menorca. In September there are major fiestas in St Lluis and Mahon.

In September schedule flights are operated by Monarch from Luton allowing you to plan a short break or a full week.

The Menorca School of horsemanship in Son Martorellet,near Cala Galdana, is open to the public from 10:00-13:00 and 15:00-20:00 everyday except Sunday. There is the chance to visit the stables. During the summer an Evening Show combines dressage with show time, every Tuesday and Thursday at 20:30. There are also Mini-shows on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday in the afternoon.

The Director of the Spanish Tourist Office (OET) in London, Ignacio Vasallo, affirmed last week that, although sales of package holidays to the Balearic Islands were very slow at the beginning of the year in the U.K., they have gradually been increasing in the successive months and, if the trend continues, they should be on a par with last year.
